Winchester Ramblers have announced a packed schedule of more than 60 walks for the autumn season.

The walks, led by locals, vary from three to 12 miles and are open to everyone for up to three taster sessions before deciding on membership.

Scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, the routes cover a wide area, offering a range of walking experiences.

The Winchester Ramblers, however, are not just about exploring the countryside.

Their volunteers are also busy checking the condition of local rights of way and collaborating with Hampshire County Council to resolve any issues.

This approach by the Winchester Ramblers not only enhances the walking experience for all, but also ensures the upkeep and maintenance of public footpaths.

With the help of a recent grant from Hampshire County Council, the group has acquired lightweight modern equipment to ensure country paths remain clear.

Volunteer groups are tackling a backlog of access issues, such as replacing stiles with kissing gates and trimming vegetation encroaching on pathways.

Richard Eve, chair of Winchester Ramblers, highlighted the increasing popularity of walking, saying, "People are increasingly discovering the huge benefits and pleasures of walking, and we can really help you to get more out of your walks.

"If you are interested in joining us for a trial walk, would like to join one of our working parties, or become a member of our team of volunteer Local Path Watchers then we would love to hear from you."

For those keen on joining the Winchester Ramblers, either for walking or volunteering, contact information is available on their website.

Meanwhile, the public is urged to report any issues with rights of way encountered during walking, cycling, or riding via Hampshire County Council's dedicated webpage.

The group's efforts, supplemented by the county council's support, are set to make a significant difference in the accessibility and enjoyment of the local countryside.

With the autumn season setting in, their efforts are bound to make a positive impact on the local community and beyond.
