ROMSEY Police have seized an uninsured e-scooter after a man was caught speeding along the pavement in a Hampshire village.

The incident happened on the evening of Saturday, October 5, on Fleming Avenue, North Baddesly.

A recovery lorry was sent out to pick up the scooter, prompting some to question why police could not simply have picked it up by less expensive means.

Earlier this year, "Operation Crush" was announced to target those illegally using two-wheeled vehicles to commit further crimes, those persistently involved in anti-social behaviour and those putting themselves or other road users at risk of injury.

When a vehicle of this size is seized, there is a £192 initial penalty charge to the owner, after which they must pay £13 per day.

Should the vehicle not be reclaimed, it will be disposed of at a charge of £64.

Romsey Police published the following post on their Twitter page: "E-scooter driver on Fleming Avenue North Baddesley using the pavement as a road with no insurance for his vehicle. Not Legal. Reported for offences. Vehicle seized, Zero tolerance week."
