A WILTSHIRE man with a history of violence has admitted stabbing another man.

Kieran Hutchinson, 30, of Cuckoo Pen Close, Collingbourne Kingston, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent at Winchester Crown Court on Wednesday, October 2.

He had previously been charged with attempted murder, to which he pleaded not guilty, but an intervention by Justin Yang, defending, saw this changed to wounding with intent.

Mr Yang told the court: “[Hutchinson] meant to essentially scare the complainant […] but there was no intention to kill.”

After an initial discussion during which the defence requested the charges be amended, Judge Paul Dugdale told Mr Yang: “Sadly, the Crown has no control over the plea your client enters.”

After some deliberation, the CPS accepted the revised charges.

The crime took place on August 25 in Ludgershall, near Andover, and sparked a police manhunt.

Hutchinson also pleaded guilty to carrying a knife and criminal damage, both of which were committed on the same occasion.

Judge Dugdale mentioned Hutchinson’s history of convictions for violent offences, which include a 22-month jail sentence he served for headbutting a police officer and trying to hit another with a glass in 2018.

Addressing Hutchinson, who was wearing a grey t-shirt, Judge Dugdale said: “It’s going to be a lengthy prison sentence, you know that.”

Hutchinson has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on Tuesday, December 3.
