Weekly perfect pitch lunchtime concerts at The Hospital of St Cross

Students have been drawn from schools and colleges in Winchester and nearby, in addition to musicians from London Academies and also from the talented Ukrainian community in our locality.

Pitch Perfect concerts have invited performances from local educational institutions, where instrumental and vocal music making is well established in the curriculum. However, this contrasts with the lack of financial investment nationally, meaning 94% of school children are not even offered an opportunity to learn an instrument. Thanks to The Friends of Music in Winchester, who have worked closely with concert organiser Graham Davies at the Hospital it has been made possible for some children at a local primary school to receive grants towards instrumental lessons. This important connection has been achieved as a result of the Perfect Pitch Concerts where they perform.

Clearly, the concerts have not just benefitted student musicians, they have brought local people together in large numbers, who have formed a community that come each week, and whose lives are enriched by inspiring performances in such superb surroundings. Surprisingly however, many long-standing residents of Winchester have not visited The Hospital of St Cross before.

The date for the new season of Perfect Pitch Concerts is Thursday 24th April 12.30pm, continuing weekly until 30th October 2025.

All concerts are free to enter, with donations for the conservation work at The Hospital.
