HUNDREDS of people took to the Test Way this weekend to take part in an annual fundraising walk.

Organised by the Romsey Rotary Club, Walk the Test Way 2024 was held on Sunday, September 29, with more than 574 walkers taking part to raise money for their chosen charities.

Launched in 2003, the annual fundraiser has since raised more than £1m for charities, with more than £90,000 raised last year for 115 different organisations. This year the main charities were Mountbatten Hospice with 88 walkers, Alfie’s Wish with 55 walkers, Rose Road with 35 walkers and Parkinson’s UK Fundraising South with 34 walkers, 26 of whom were from Romsey Football Club.

Walkers are able to choose their walking distance, with options ranging from 25.5 miles to 5 miles between St Mary Bourne to Romsey Memorial Park.

Walkers were bussed to their starting point and then made their way along the Test Way back to Romsey to end the walk at the Memorial Park.

This year, participants were greeted at the finish line by the Mayor of Romsey Cllr John Parker, The Mayor Councillor Ian Jeffrey and Rotary District Governor Debbie Dunford who all helped with handing out medals along with water for the walkers.

Outreach Radio was also present at the finish line, playing music and conducting interviews to keep everyone entertained on the field and at home whilst family, charity stalls, sponsors, and Rotarians were all waiting patiently for the return of the walkers.
