ONE mystery appears to have been solved. Last week we featured two photos of children playing in a sandpit in the years after World War Two. One of the boys was even wearing his father's, brother's or uncle's steel helmet. The caption speculated that if not Abbey Gardens, then where. A lady rang the office, without giving her name, to say it was Culverwell Gardens, off Culver Road.
Any information about any of the photographs is gratefully received.
The photos were all taken by or on behalf of the Hampshire Chronicle in the years after the Second world War.
They are all held on the Chronicle's behalf by Hampshire Cultural Trust at their headquarters at Bar End. The trust is digitising them to make them more available to the public.
