THE next Farmers' Market in Alresford will take place in Station Road on Saturday October 5.

ADVANCE notice that one of the most unusual annual public events in Hampshire takes place next month.
The Broad Street funfair in Alresford will take over the thoroughfare as it has done for centuries on Thursday October 17.
The fun fair arrives early in the morning and there will be no access to or from Broad Street through to Old Alresford all day.
The funfair starts in the afternoon and goes thorough the evening with rides within yards of front doors.
The fair usually moves on by midnight.

THE next talk at Alresford Historical and Literary Society will be about writing a historical novel.
Jude Hayland will speak on 'Writing out of the recent past – how, why and when to set a novel with reference to social, political and cultural contexts' on Wednesday October 16.
The society holds its monthly meetings in the Methodist Church, Jacklyns Lane, SO24 9JJ. Meetings are normally held on the third Wednesday of the month, and it is not necessary to be a member to attend – visitors are welcome at the door for just £3.


IT may seem a long way away but the order for the Alresford Christmas trees will open soon, say the Alresford Pigs Association.
The Pigs has given financial help to those in need in the town and the surrounding villages for more than 40 years.

A COUNTRY lane near Ropley is to be closed for a day tomorrow, Friday September 27.
The county council is closing Bighton Hill between Colebrook Fields and a point 350m to the north.
Chevron Traffic Management will be carrying out resurfacing work between 10am and 3.30pm.
An alternative route is suggested via Barnetts Wood Lane and Sutton Wood Lane.

ALRESFORD Town Council is setting up a Litter Picking Club and is looking for volunteers this Saturday.
The annual community litter pick is always supported by the club aims to meet several times a year.
The club’s first session will be on Saturday September 28, 9.30-11.30am, focusing on the town centre.

DON'T just leave those fallen apples in your back garden. Alresford Rotary wants to see you and your fruit.
Take them to the car park at the Flower Pots public house in Cheriton on Saturday October 12 from 12-4pm.
The Rotary volunteers  will crush them, give you half the juice and sell the other half for £2 a litre to support its local and international charities. It is not for large commercial crops.

A LIGHT music concert will be held in Ropley on Saturday October 5, from 7pm.
The venue will be St Peter's church when Heritage Light Orchestra will perform a number of popular melodies from composers such as Gerschwin, Sondheim and Elgar.
The bar will open from 6.15pm. Tickets are £20 and avialble at www.stpetersropleyvenue.org.uk/buy-tickets.

FOOTPATH river works, between the Dean and the Mill in Alresford, is well underway and due to finish by mid to late October.
Footpath 10 will be closed form The Dean to the Mill and Footpath 9 will be closed from The Dean to the Rec. ground for the duration of the works.
The surface of the path will be raised by 10cm.

THE Alresford fireworks display is coming on Friday November 8.
The torchlight procession starts from Broad Street at 7pm. The bonfire and fireworks starts at 7.45pm in Arlebury Park. Tickets are available from October 1. Tickets bought in October are £4 for children and £9 for adults. In November the tickets are £5.50 for children and £12 for adults.
