FAST approaching is Colden Common's scarecrow festival in October.  It will be held around the village on Sunday, October 6 from 10am to 3pm. In a Facebook post, organisers said: “Our popular annual community event returns. Join us for a scarecrow hunt around Colden Common. With tasty chocolate treat (allergy alternatives available), wonderful arts and crafts and fab raffle prizes. Great family fun for all ages, with riddles to solve for older children. Everyone is invited! £5 per child. Price includes entry to the trail and prize, entry to the arts and crafts and colouring competitions and a drink and a biscuit. Hot drinks will be served in stoneware cups. If you would like to purchase a drink to take away with you, please bring your own reusable mug.”

IT is not long now until the Twyford pumpkin revival returns. 
It will be held at The Bugle Inn, High Street, on Sunday, October 13 from 5.30pm. 
There will be food drinks, weigh the pumpkin competition and more. 

ON October 13 at Twyford Community Centre there will be a folk concert. Singer Robert Vincent has had to transfer to this new venue due to demand. The concert, organised by sc4m begins at 8pm. Tickets are available at wegottickets.com/sc4m.

THERE will be a harvest service for families at the St Mary's Church in Twyford at 4pm on Sunday, October 13. All are welcome and donations will be forwarded to the "Basics Bank". The service will be hosted by the 360 Church Group.

A PROVISIONAL date has been set for Twyford's bonfire night. The event is slated for Sunday, October 27 at Hunter Park. Fireworks will begin at around 6.30pm.

ONE more event in Twyford is the church quiz, to be held at Twyford Parish Hall on Friday, October 25. Between 7pm and 10pm, Jon Hibberd will act as quiz-master to test knowledge on a range of subjects. All are welcome, and revellers are invited to bring their own picnic. Entry is £10 per person and guests will be seated at tables of eight. Bookings are being supervised by Juliet Hawkes, who can be contacted on 07887946830 or at julietahawkes@aol.com. There will also be a bar and a raffle.

THE reading of a play will take place in Curdridge Reading Rooms. On Wednesday, October 16, at 7.30pm, World First will be read aloud. Anyone is welcome and there will be free parking. The venue is on Reading Room Lane, Curdridge, SO32 2HE.

THE new waste and recycling calendar will start from October 7 onwards and will affect the entire area, including Twyford, Colden Common,Otterbourne, Compton and Shawford. Information will be posted to you soon if it has not arrived already, along with a letter explaining some changes that may affect you. Winchester City Council is overseeing the changes. An indoor car boot sale is taking place at the Colden Common Community Centre. On Saturday, October 5, sellers will start setting up from 8.30am. Tables are £5 for those wishing to sell, while entry is 50 pence for buyers. Doors open at 10am and refreshments will be available.
