CHANGES to the bin collection schedule in Winchester are set to impact residents from next month.
Winchester City Council has reviewed local waste and recycling collection routes in collaboration with its partner, Biffa, resulting in a decision to change bin collection routes for residents which could change the days that their bins are collected.
These route changes anticipate the growth of recycling in the district, including the introduction of a food waste collection service.

The new routes will result in 35,000 fewer yearly miles for bin lorries as part of the council's initiative to cut carbon emissions.
Winchester residents will be notified of their new bin calendar via post by the end of September, with a letter enclosing any changes in their area.
The new waste and recycling rounds will commence on October 7 – until then residents should continue to follow their existing calendar schedule.
The amended routes aid in the council’s initiative to become a carbon-neutral district by 2030, and they will include the council’s first electric waste and recycling vehicle.

The council has changed all existing vehicles from diesel to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) which has cut emissions by as much as 94%.
Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency, Kelsie Learney said: “We know that residents want to be able to recycle more and these changes ensure we can seamlessly introduce wider recycling collections in the future, including food waste recycling.
"At the same time, we are improving the efficiency of our service and cutting carbon emissions as we do so. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing our first fully electric waste and recycling vehicle on the road this autumn!”
