Ref: Mr. Macdonald’s letter concerning cruise ships.

Many new cruise ships are now being built with alternative fuel systems to reduce pollution. Ports are being equipped so that ships can ‘plug-in’ to shore supplies avoiding the need to run engines whilst in port. Wastewater etc. is recycled and retained, likewise general waste which is unloaded at a port.

As regards passenger spending in smaller ports; having been a passenger myself several times, I have seen the various shops and cafes doing quite nicely thank you!

Perhaps Mr. Macdonald considers tourism should be prohibited altogether which no doubt should include noisy polluting aircraft. Perhaps modern transport should be banned altogether and we go back to horse and cart; but oh no that will not work either as the horse ‘power’ makes too much waste!

Yours Sincerely,

L. J. White (Mr.)
