The first production appearing at the Chesil Theatre in Winchester for its new season is Neil Simon’s The Last of the Red Hot Lovers.

The comedy is set in the late 1960s and follows Barney Cashman, a successful middle-class fish restaurateur.

Determined to prevent his perceived mundane life from passing him by, Barney uses his mother’s Upper East Side apartment for his meetings with three different women to try and embark on his sexual revolution.

Barney is played by Gary Nicholson, who also appeared in Terry Lohr’s Educating Rita, which won the NODA Award of Excellence in 2022.

Chesil favourite Gary will appear alongside Karen Fitzsimmons, Cassandra Powers and newcomer, Jo-Anna Coyningham who play the three women his character becomes entangled with.

Terry has stated: ‘This comedy classic reflects the language and attitudes of the time it was written, but is also timeless as Barney tackles, and is bewildered by, the complexities of seduction."

The play will run from September 28 to October 5 with the curtain coming up at 7:30, and the matinee will begin at 2:30 on September 29.

Tickets starting from £12 are available from the Chesil Theatre website, www.chesiltheatre.org.uk
