The newest musical to arrive at one of Hampshire's largest theatres is full of magic, joy and humour.

Disney's Aladdin UK Tour has taken to the stage at Mayflower Theatre and it is one not to be missed.

The spectacular musical, which was a hit in the West End and Broadway, is based on the 1992 animated film and features all the hits, as well as a few new numbers.

We went along to see it on Friday, September 6, and it was the perfect way to end the week, everyone left the theatre with massive grins.

I won't lie, I'm pretty sure the only version of Aladdin I've seen is the pantomime (sorry to any Disney fans) and it was pretty hard not to shout 'boo' anytime Jafar entered the stage. Despite the lack of audience interaction (I do love a panto), the musical was a cracking time.

Gavin Adams (Aladdin) and Desmonda Cathabel (Jasmine) were incredible - it was hard not to fall in love with both of them during 'A Whole New World'. I won't spoil it, but the staging for that song was just pure magic.

For Gavin, the tour is his professional debut after graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in 2023. He hit every note perfectly, was effortlessly funny and charming, but was serious and emotional when needed.

Anyone who watched ITV's talent search 'Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream' might recognise Desmonda, in Aladdin, she is sassy, funny and independent. I think Jasmine might be the most fun princess, it's nice to think how many little girls in the audience were inspired by her that night.

Bringing the most joy - and receiving the biggest cheer at the end - was Yeukayi Ushe as the Genie who was the absolute standout star.

Yeukayi was camp, fun and hilarious, I'd buy another ticket just to see his performance of Friend Like Me again. It was colourful, hilarious and absolutely enhancing. Go see Aladdin just experience the Genie, you won't be upset.

The whole production brings Disney to Southampton, Aladdin is full of sparkles, colour and lights. We felt like children again, it was brilliant.

Aladdin is at the Mayflower Theatre until September 29, don't miss out. Information and tickets can be found at mayflower.org.uk/whats-on/disneys-aladdin-2024
