THE Hampshire Chronicle photographic archive is full of images from farming in the Winchester area.
The years after the Second World War were a time of great change for farming. More and more machines were coming in replacing manual labour. The photos show the machines but also the use of pitchforks, a staple of the farmyard for a thousand years. Within a few more decades they too would go the way of the yoke and the milkmaid.
Two photos this week feature swimming, one in Romsey and the other captioned Winchester Lido although it looks too big for the pool in Worthy Lane. Perhaps readers can help clarify.
All these photos are being held at Hampshire Cultural Trust at its Bar End headquarters.
If anyone has old photos from the 1940s to 70s the Chronicle would love to see them and perhaps feature them in the newspaper.
