In your edition of September 5 on page 25 there is a photo entitled “Your Picture”.

The photo was taken around 1948 at Crawley, near Winchester. The lady on the left is my mother – Kath Murray and the other lady , I think was Betty Packard. I did have a copy of this photo but gave it to Crawley Parish Council and they, I believe, have put it into the pavilion at the George Phillippi Recreation Ground. The photo I had only showed one small boy – that being the one on the left – which is me. I was about four at the time – so you are wrong I am now in my 80s! Mother said I always spoilt a good picture and wanted to be noticed! I have no idea who the other lad is.

This was quite ground breaking at the time – Ladies playing cricket. They were the opening batters for the Crawley side – who their opponents were I do not remember. Father played for Crawley, batted at number three and was a slow bowler.

My parents were married in 1940 and they moved to the Red House in Crawley when father (Ron Murray) stated to work for Douglas Seligman at New Barn Farm. My brother (Keith) and I lived in Crawley with our parents until around 1960 when Douglas Seligman downsized his farm from around 3,000 acres to 1,000 and father then went to work for SCATS and we moved to Dean Lane in Winchester.

Quite a shock to see ones younger self staring out from the pages of the Hampshire Chronicle.
