WINCHESTER'S first Lebanese restaurant has opened its doors to customers after a two-month refurbishment.

Lebanese House will serve freshly sourced dishes made from scratch, with dishes inspired by Middle-Eastern cuisine.

The owner, Mohamed Elshabrawy, already has a branch of Lebanese House in Newbury and thought Winchester would be the ideal location for a second branch.

He has called this evening, September 3, a "soft opening" before the official launch this Friday, September 6, for which the restaurant is currently taking bookings.

Until then, the restaurant will remain open to members of the public who want to sample the food and drink on offer.

Mr Elshabrawy cut his teeth as a chef and floor manager at a series of Egyptian and Lebanese restaurants in London before deciding to embark on his own business venture.

"All our food is home made. The hummus, for example, we get the chick peas ourselves and make it from scratch.

"There'll be baba ghanoush and vine leaves and a charcoal grill for kebabs and lamb chops. Even our falafel will be home made."

The restaurant will also serve Lebanese wine and beer, as well as the usual drinks.
