Winchester Film Society starts their 2024/25 season with their first-ever free film screening, as a reward for last year's record turnout.
The film, "Anatomy of a Fall", will be shown on September 24 at 7pm at the Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium's 176-seat cinema.
The Winchester Film Society is a non-profit society run by volunteers.
Each year, the society screens 16 carefully curated foreign and independent films, believed to be entering its 50th year of operation.
Last year, they averaged over 100 people for each film.
The programme runs from September until May, with a new film showed every two weeks.
The films are hand-picked by the Society’s panel, and each screening includes a comprehensive introduction, film notes and an audience voting session.
Season tickets are fixed at £80, providing entry to all 16 films, while individual films are priced at £8.
The film "Anatomy of a Fall", free as part of the launch offer, won numerous awards including Oscar, Palme d’Or, BAFTA and other accolades.
Those interested must book their free ticket through the Society's website, www.winchesterfilmsociety.co.uk, as on-the-night tickets will not be sold.
The Society has put together an exciting roster for the 2024/25 season, featuring films from a variety of genres and countries.
Among the line-up are documentaries, animations, dramas and comedies that explore topics such as migration routes, Christmas celebrations, countryside living, and public restroom cleaning.
Some of the films have the F-rating, a rating designed to promote and support women in the film industry.
The Society encourages anyone with queries about the BBFC classification of a film to visit the BBFC website for full information.
Following the free kick-off show on September 24, the next films will be screened every other Tuesday beginning October 1 at the Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium.
The Society looks forward to welcoming the public back for another inspiring year of filmowing a successful season last year.
Memberships and tickets for the season are now available online.
