A MAN who was arrested and taken away in a police van on Winchester High Street has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
The Winchester resident, 67, was arrested yesterday, September 4, on suspicion of using "threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress".
The incident happened outside the Marks and Spencer on the busy thoroughfare in front of passers-by at around 1.15pm.
Seven officers restrained the man against the wall of the store. He was heard shouting after he had been handcuffed and was being escorted into the police vehicle parked in St George's Street.
The man was wearing jeans and a blue chequered shirt. He was taken into custody before being bailed pending further enquiries.
