I REFER to editorial comment on my suggestion about a ring road (Chronicle, Letters, August 29). Firstly, we can't make decisions today based on what happened 30 years ago. Secondly, traffic volumes have hugely increased in this time, sadly. Thirdly, every week there is an accident on the M3 or A34 and all the traffic then comes through our city.

Cycling on the busy Romsey Road is far too dangerous. Park and Ride serves a useful purpose but it doesn't help residents like me wanting to get to Winnall or say Kings Worthy or to family in the Itchen Valley where buses hardly exist. We need a solution now which is cost-effective, practical and realistic. Some might say reduce the traffic movements, fine, and who will give up using a car?

Three times this year I have set out to use the No5 bus which I then find is cancelled so I have to run home and take my car to get to an appointment. Not good.
