A NEW dementia day care centre has opened its doors in Otterbourne.

Forever Young Dementia Day Centre is at Otterbourne Village Hall every Monday from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The centre is run by Stef Pinchback, and offers person-centred activities to help stimulate the brain and to help to slow down the progression of Dementia.

Attendees also get a two-course lunch and snacks throughout the day.

Stef said that she opened the centre because she feels that all people who live at home with dementia should have the opportunity to socialise and make new friends.

She said: “Forever Young offers person-centred activities to help stimulate the brain and to help to slow down the progression of Dementia. Living with dementia can feel lonely and often feel isolated.

“We want to give carers that much-needed respite for a few hours every week knowing their loved ones are having a great time at the dementia day centre in a safe and happy environment.

“You do not need to have a GP or a health professional referral to attend. We also accept people who are waiting for a dementia diagnosis. No one should have to wait.

“If I can help families, then I know I'm doing a good job.

“I currently work as a senior carer in a dementia care home in Winchester and care for people at different stages of dementia.

“Listening to families say how difficult it was to care for their loved one's full time at home before they came to the care home makes me want to help people even more and there aren't many day centres around to offer weekly sessions.”
