A PHOTO and print exhibition is coming to the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, just outside Romsey.

The 50:50 Photo and Paint exhibition is running from September 6 to October 2.

Featuring the work of eight local artists (four painters and four photographers) the group has been active for more than 12 years.

The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 5pm, closing at 3pm on the final day.

This year’s photographers include Roy Brophy, Kev Sandall, and Brian Whittaker.

Kev, an award-winning photographer, captures images of people, landscapes, and wildlife. Brian, a Hillier Gardens employee, showcases a variety of work that spans both abstract and realistic styles. His photography captures the local beauty of Hillier Gardens as well as a broad range of other subjects, reflecting his diverse interests and artistic exploration. Roy is known for his innovative digital darkroom techniques, exploring both abstract and realistic styles to create compelling and thought-provoking compositions.

The painters are represented by Gill Brophy, Colleen Cockcroft, and Barry Fry. Gill experiments with colour and texture, producing vibrant and dynamic works of art. Barry draws inspiration from local landscapes, creating impressionistic paintings that convey a powerful sense of light and atmosphere. Colleen, known for her colourful landscapes, is branching out to explore a more semi-abstract style, resulting in engaging and lively paintings and collages.

Rachel Chappell and Catherine Wharton are both painters and photographers.

Rachel began her journey in the group with award-winning close-up floral photography but has recently shifted towards painting, using abstraction and colour to produce bold, semi-abstract pieces. Catherine, a new member to the group, has embraced her recent retirement to explore contemporary art, developing photo-collages that reflect her travels and passion for the natural world.

Brian said: “Art and photography at its best should weave stories that often ask the viewer questions about what they are seeing.

“The 50/50 exhibition, with work from eight local photographers and artists will certainly make visitors stop, explore and savour the varied visual treats on offer.

“From wildlife to landscape and from abstracts and impressions to more concrete representations there should be something for everyone to enjoy at this exhibition.

“We hope you enjoy some great creative adventures. Do come and meet us in person to find out more."
