THE former MP for Winchester and Chandler's Ford is taking on a new challenge.
Steve Brine, 50, who represented the now-altered constituency from 2010 to 2024, will be chair of trustees at The Winchester Cancer Sanctuary. He announced last year he would leave the House of Commons at the 2024 election.
Established recently by local yoga teacher Nikki Lynds-Xavier, 55, the charity hopes to provide holistic care to anyone affected by cancer. It will provide activities and therapies including support, counselling, meditation, massage, reflexology and yoga as well as a comprehensive cancer information library.

Mr Brine said: “It is early days but we’re all really excited to be involved in what promises to be a very special new local charity. Winchester is a growing city, yet no local cancer support service exists specifically for its population. The Winchester Cancer Sanctuary aims to change that. Watch this space and get involved if you can. The initial response as we’ve started talking to people has been amazing.”
Nikki Lynds-Xavier said: “The internet is awash with advice on cancer treatments and support but there’s a need for practical help and guidance from those who can speak from direct experience.
“The point of the Sanctuary is that we as a community can come together to support each other - people with cancer, people touched by cancer, and people who simply want to help – assisted by qualified cancer professionals.”
