A HAMPSHIRE cat has climbed two of Britain's three highest peaks in a bid to become (probably) the first feline ever to have climbed Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike.

Louis, a Persian, was accompanied by owners Dan Taylor, 34, and Jess Peters, 31, from Sherfield English near Romsey, on ascents of Snowdon in May and Ben Nevis on Saturday, August 24.

The cat was set to climb Scafell Pike the following Monday to complete the holy trinity of the UK's tallest mountains, but adverse conditions forced the expedition to be called off.

"The weather didn't permit it," said Dan. "It should be nice this weekend, though, so I think we'll try and climb [Scafell Pike] this Saturday."

Even during the ascent of Ben Nevis, Louis had to be carried as he was beginning to get soaked through.

"Towards the end of Ben Nevis we got caught up in a storm. We did persist as we were quite close to the top, but we came back down as fast as we could."

Asked whether Louis has recovered from the ordeal, Dan said: "He's loving life. He's just sleeping it off really."

Jess and Dan explained to the Chronicle that Louis loves walking, often clocking up six miles in a day.

Dan said: “I don’t know how else to put it really, he’s a bit like a dog in that sort of behaviour, he’ll just walk alongside us, and he just enjoys his walks."

Dan is a landscape gardener, while Jess is an author and aerospace engineer. The couple plan to broadcast Louis's progress this weekend on his Instagram page lordlouis_persian.

They have also set up a GoFundMe page: 20 per cent of all donations towards Louis's adventure will go to the charity Cats Protection.
