WINCHESTER is undoubtedly one of the more interesting places to visit, and it retains a certain charm. But how many people know about its dark past? For example, the Muckabees, the "susing riots" and Alice Disle (not to mention Sir Walter Raleigh and Ruth Ellis).

Winchester is still very smug and pretentious, but I guess that comes with privilege. It is not the gentle place it once was, but to people escaping from London, it is the ideal place.
