PLANS have gone in for new signs outside a former clothes shop in Winchester city centre.
The Cornish Bakery has submitted a planning application for the old Phase Eight in High Street.
It closed its doors in May when it vacated the huge unit on the corner of High Street and Parchment Street.
The Cornish Bakery owner Steve Grocutt submitted the plans to Winchester City Council. They currently have 60 stores across the country, including in Salisbury, Portsmouth and Lymington.
Should the plans be permitted, they will get new signs on the front of the unit which say "Coffee & Pastries" and "Cornish Bakery".

By Tuesday, August 27 no public comments in support or objection had been submitted.
It will have stiff competition with Reeve The Baker, The Winchester Bakery, Greggs and Wenzels nearby.
On The Cornish Bakery website, it said: “Cornish Bakery is an eat-in or take-out bakery with Cornish roots. Award-winning pasties, buttery viennoiserie, cakes, bakes, tortilla and ethically sourced coffees are the foundations of our business. For us it has always been about the food and drink and the way we make people feel.”
