Residents from Flowerdown care home took to the sea for an enjoyable day out.

The Winchester facility's resident activities co-ordinator Kate Harfield was the brains behind the fun-filled seaside cruise.

Wet Wheels, a charity that provides sea experiences for people with disabilities, helped organise the special event.

Setting off from Gunwharf Quays, the residents cruised along the Solent, taking in the sights of the busy ferry route.

The trip was followed by a picnic lunch, provided by the home's hospitality team, and a tasty ice cream treat.

Claudia Nunes, general manager of Flowerdown care home, said: "Our residents had a whale of a time on the cruise.

"Adventures that take place outside of the home are a regular event for the residents, and we always ask for ideas on where they would best like to go.

"Thank you to Wet Wheels who helped make the day possible and a lot of fun.

"Our residents were able to enjoy a beautiful day on the river which was quite therapeutic, and the weather made it all the more special."

Flowerdown care home, part of Barchester Healthcare, provides residential and nursing care for up to 42 residents, from respite care to long-term stays.
