TVBC planning meetings are a farce.

Along with every single one of the residents of my small mews development I recently attended a TVBC planning meeting which was reviewing an application for a house extension to which we all objected.

Every single one of the residents had actually written to the council and expressed their objection.

The council’s own conservation officer had similarly stated his objection.

At the meeting it was clear that the councillors had not read these letters, nor the officer’s report and we were given a total of only three minutes in which to address the committee about our concerns.

After a brief discussion amongst the councillors (to which we were not allowed to contribute) the councillors approved the application.

If the councillors are not going to listen to the views of those most affected by an application, nor to their own officer, why bother to hold a meeting at all.
