TWO opportunities for new farmers in the Winchester area have been offered by Hampshire County Council.

The Hampshire County Farms Service currently has two farms which can be rented by up-and-coming farmers looking to kickstart their career.

South Stoke Farm is a 128-acre dairy holding on Lovedon Lane which forms part of the Kings Worthy Estate. It consists of a farmhouse, multiple buildings and land which is to be let on a seven-year Farm Business Tenancy. The tenancy starts in March 2025, though it can be started sooner if possible.

Cox Croft Farm is a 129-acre livestock holding in Compton Street. It includes a farmhouse, stables, and several buildings. Cox Croft is also to be let on a seven-year Farm Business Tenancy.

Further details available from the farms service.

Hampshire County Farms Service was established in the early 20th century to support entry in farming, produce more food and provide rural employment.

It has about 30 farms with several south and north of Winchester, around Compton and Kings Worthy.

There are 43 smallholding authorities in England and Wales who provide this service, giving opportunities to those seeking an affordable start to farming.
