A compelling new drama, titled 'The Lion and the Unicorn', will be premiering soon.
Inspired by Robin Hawdon’s book 'Dinner With Churchill', the theatrical piece is creatively presented as a radio-play-live-on-stage.
On October 2, the Theatre Royal Winchester will transport the audience to wartime London through its unique stage setup and live sound effects from the on-stage radio studio.
Set on an evening in 1939, six weeks after the declaration of the war, it is the imaginary conversation between Winston Churchill, Neville Chamberlain and their wives - Clementine and Anne, during a private dinner.
The story unfolds around the dinner where Chamberlain has recently seen his peace hopes with Hitler shattered, and Churchill’s warnings about the Nazi threat are finally validated.
The high-profile cast includes actors like Brian Capron from 'Coronation Street', who will portray Neville Chamberlain.
Tim Hudson from 'De Gaulle' is Winston Churchill.
Corrinne Wicks from 'Doctors' has been chosen to play Clementine Churchill whereas Sarah Gain from 'Twelfth Night' will be Anne Chamberlain.
Frazer Hines from 'Emmerdale' will assume the role of Inches, the Churchills’ butler.
This new offering from playwright Robin Hawdon, known for his pieces like 'Don’t Dress For Dinner' and 'Revenge', combines drama and depth.
The narrative is intimate yet epic, strikingly relevant to contemporary times, raising the question of how one should respond to a threatening dictator.
