I think your readers deserve to know the truth about West View House (Chronicle, August 1,8, 15).
I have spoken to various members of staff who have told me that the (exaggerated) claims of anti-social behaviour are the manifestation of a far deeper problem.
It seems that the fundamental problem is funding, or the lack of.
The funding comes mainly from Winchester City Council but indirectly from the county council.
There is a lot of pressure on West View House management from above. (The staff are doing their best to contain this problem.)
With regard to the decision to close West View House in March/April, it can only be closed when all the residents are appropriately re-housed with adequate support.
It may surprise your readers to know that virtually all the residents have mental health problems and require a high level of support.
