TEMPORARY four-way traffic lights will be installed on a major Winchester road while work is carried out.

The temporary lights will be at the junction of Easton Lane and Moorside Road, while SGN undertakes repair and maintenance work to a gas main.

It is likely to cause severe delays on one of the city's busiest roads.

The work is expected to last up to eight weeks and will start on Monday, August 19.

A Hampshire County Council spokesperson said: “Scotia Gas Networks (SGN) has been liaising closely with the County Council as they prepare for an essential upgrade to a gas main on Easton Lane, at the junction with Moorside Road.

“Some disruption will be unavoidable in this busy area during the works.

“SGN will be doing all they can to complete the upgrade as quickly as possible, including working extended hours. They will also be monitoring the traffic carefully and can control the traffic lights manually during busy times, if this becomes necessary.

“The duration of the works is currently estimated at eight weeks, based on similar schemes. When the work begins, it may be possible to refine this estimate.”
