THERE are thousands of photos taken by photographers working for the Hampshire Chronicle which were published at the time and then largely consigned to storage.
Some of the photos have resurfaced, such as in Winchester: the Post-War Years published in 2002.
But most of the photos we have published in the Bygone series are being seen for the first time in 70 years.
Our favourite this week is the group photo taken in Bishop's Sutton village hall in 1949. Almost everyone is wearing those heavy woollen coats, which became popular with students in the 1970s and 80s and still occasionally turn up in retro fashion shops and market stalls.
The loneliness of the long-distance runner is captured in the photo of the cross-country run in Compton, probably from the late 1940s.
