TWO vacancies are still available for councillors on Alresford Town Council.
The council is highlighting the spaces and is seeking public-spirited people who want to make a difference to the town.
They will get involved with issues such as planning, transport, parks and the allotments. For more information contact the town clerk at the civic offices at Alresford Recreation Centre, Arlebury Park.

THE next talk to Alresford Historical and Literary Society will be on Wednesday September 18 when John Holden will speak on Ralph Dutton of Hinton Ampner. Mr Dutton restored the mansion near Cheriton and improved its garden. When he died in 1986 he left the house to the National Trust.
The society holds its monthly meetings in the Methodist Church, Jacklyns Lane, Alresford SO24 9JJ. Meetings are normally held on the third Wednesday of the month, and it is not necessary to be a member to attend – visitors are welcome at the door for just £3.
Annual membership (January 1 - December 31) is only £10.

THE Antiques Fair returns to Alresford Community Centre on West Street on Saturday August 17 from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

THE popular annual classic car rally returns to a pub near Cheriton in September.
The Hinton Arms in Petersfield Road, Hinton Ampner, will be staging the annual event that attracts old cars, bikes, tractors and commercial vehicles.
The event starts at 9am and there will be an outside bar all day. There is no need to book, just turn up.

ONE of the most expensive houses in the Alresford area is on the market.
Knight Frank estate agents in Winchester are marketing Hockley House near Cheriton.
The Georgian mansion on the A272 is for sale with an asking price of £4.85million.
The Grade II listed building has 10 bedrooms and eight bathrooms, according to Country Life magazine. This is the first time the house has been on the market since 1976 and has been extensively restored.

A NEW swing gate has been installed by Alresford Town Council at the bottom of Arlebury Park and the river walk to make it easier for wheel chair access and those with buggies/pushchairs.

WORK on improving the riverside footpath in Alresford will start later this month.
It is scheduled to start on Thursday August 29 and will be completed by late October on the path from The Dean to the mill. The surface of the footpath will be raised by 100mm.

ONE of the highlights of the local calendar returns this year on Saturday September 7.
Alresford Show has bounced back from the impact of the Covid cancellations.
Organisers reported a very successful 2023 show with its annual report stating income of £321,000 and, after expenses, donations were made to charity of £40,000, up from £30,000 in 2022 when income from the show was £285,000. Covid restrictions meant the show was not held in 2021 or 2020.

CHRISTMAS is already being planned at TOADS – The Old Alresford Dramatic Society.
Auditions for the Christmas pantomime will be held in the Christy Hall, Old Alresford on Sunday, September 8.
Rehearsals are expected to start on Sunday, September15 at 7pm, and then run every Thursday at 7.30pm and Sunday at 7pm until show week. Show week will be Tuesday, December 10 until Saturday, December 14 at 7.30pm each evening, with a matinee on Saturday, December 14 at 2.30pm.
