A CARE home has reopened following a multi-million-pound refurbishment.

The refurbishment was carried out at St Cross Grange Care Home, in St Cross Road, after it was purchased by Manor Life from previous owner Greensleeves Care in September 2023. Following refurbishment the home opened in June.

An open day was held at St Cross Grange on Wednesday, July 24, enabling people to have a look around.

The refurbishment has created a new interior designed home for 64 residents including a secure dementia wing for nine residents with an attached sensory garden and dining room. All 64 bedrooms have luxury furnishings, flat screen TVs and en-suite wetrooms.

Manor Life, which is part of the Nicolas James Group, also created new recreation and reception areas for residents, including a cinema room, a wellbeing room, hair and nails salon and luxuriously furnished lounges on every floor.

The top floor of the building has also been completely redone, with new rooms with en-suite bathrooms. creating  five spacious bedrooms all with en-suite wetrooms, lounge spaces and a kitchen-diner area.

Justine Thelwell, director of operations, said: "We held a soft opening to introduce ourselves to the local community. We had a lot of people come around, about 24 or so, and we had people looking on behalf of their families, or their parents, or people who used to work at the care home coming in to have a look around.

“A few people are coming back for a private consultation because they have seen the house and thought it was the one.

“A lot of the staff are people who were working here when Greensleeves Care ran the property, they came back from the last owners – it is great to have them.”

Care home resident Hugh Powlet, who moved into St Cross Grange in June, said that it is “very good”.

He said: “The care is amazing. I came here worried about the whole being shutting myself away, away from people and the outside world, but the staff have done their best to facilitate everything I have asked for and have all been lovely.

“The facilities of the home are very good.”

Sue Smith, who has worked St Cross Grange for six years, said that the new owners have made the care home feel like a home away from home for the staff.

She said: “The old staff and the new staff have gelled well together.”
