I ventured down to the bottom of the town today to meet a friend for a birthday lunch in the Palm Pan Asia, opposite the Guildhall.

For someone whose hearing is no longer good this is an oasis of calm and peace away from the noisier eating houses on the main drag.

It is Asian food with a tapas twist served by the gentlest of staff who are happy to adjust the chilli to your individual taste!

Certainly, it is worth venturing off the beaten track if finding such a happy eating place is your reward.
