A MAN has been taken to hospital with "serious injuries" after a multi-car crash on a major road near Winchester.

The crash, which according to the fire service, was between "two vehicles," happened at around 11am today, Saturday, July 27, on the A34 near Wash Water.

A man in his 30s suffered a "serious" injury to his leg and was taken to hospital, police confirm.

The road was closed both ways for a number of hours.

Police, fire service and ambulance services are all confirmed to have been in attendance, with eye witnesses stating that the air ambulance was also at the scene.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary told the Chronicle: "We were called at 11.04am today (27 July) to a report of a multi-vehicle road traffic collision on the A34 near Wash Water.

"A man in his 30s has suffered a serious injury to his leg and has been taken to hospital.

"Both the northbound and southbound carriageways have been closed while the emergency services deal with the incident."

A spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service told the Gazette: "Firefighters were alerted to a two-vehicle RTC on the A34 shortly after 11am.

"Ambulance and police teams are also on the scene, with the road closed in both directions. "
