WHEN waiting for the recycling depot to open at 9am it is impossible not to notice the disused area, with gates and concrete blocks to keep out trespassers.

I empathise totally with your correspondent Edna Boden (Chronicle, Letters, July 25). Councillors and planners gave the impression that they have no vision for the benefits of the community. They lost a £1m opportunity.

A leisure developer had plans and funding to create a multiple sports and community centre, including ten pin bowling, a small budget hotel and more.

Because of inexcusable prevarication, the developer's million pound funding for a most worthwhile project was lost.

I have the idea that where county or city councillors are faced with such a benefit to residents, they are incapable acting in a manner that private enterprise would do.

Private enterprises are doers not talkers. They make decisions.

A missed opportunity on a grand scale.
