A NEW health food store has opened its doors to customers in Winchester High Street.

Grape Tree, which sells everything from nuts to kombucha, has opened its doors in the unit vacated by the folded podiatrist and shoe store Shuropody.

Manager Maria Holbrook told the Chronicle: "We have cooking products, protein-rich foods and perfect items for Christmas presents.

During the conversation with Maria, a customer pointed out that Holland and Barrett might have to lower their prices if they want to compete with Grape Tree.

"Oh no," said Maria. "I think businesses can feed off each other and we can all benefit."

She says the business is employing six people to staff the store.

Shuropody closed abruptly last month, leaving at least seven people out of a job at short notice.
