A CITY centre food and clothes shop, regularly targeted by shoplifters, has suddenly closed its back doors.

Marks and Spencer, in High Street, has three entrances: two from the High Street and one from Middle Brook Street.

The Middle Brook Street doors, which leads to the wine and alcohol racks, have been closed for the last week.

When the Chronicle visited the shop, no security guards were seen. Sainsbury's, opposite, employs a security guard on its door.

Marks and Spencer has often been targeted by people stealing items such as wine and Champagne.

Marks and Spencer has been approached for a comment.
