MORE than £10,000 was raised at the third annual Compton 10k and fete.

The money, raised at the event on Sunday, May 19, will support pupils and staff of Compton All Saints’ Church of England Primary School.

More than 250 runners from across Hampshire completed the Compton 10k run on one of the warmest days of the year.

The multi-terrain event, which starts and finishes in Compton and takes in views across Winchester and the surrounding area, has quickly become a firm fixture on the region’s running circuit, attracting a growing number of runners from across many different age groups, areas and running clubs.

Places for the 2024 run were over-subscribed. Organisers expect further places to be available in 2025.

This year’s winners were Leo Maliphant and Sarah Kingston, who completed the course in 36.47 and 43.07 respectively.

The 10k run is held in conjunction with the annual Compton School fete, which this year attracted more than 500 people.

David Ware, headteacher of Compton All Saints’ Church of England Primary School, said: “This event has surpassed even our most ambitious expectations, and I am thrilled with the levels of participation, enthusiasm and support that it is generating.

“We as a school are committed to playing our role as a core pillar of our community, not just in Compton and Shawford but across Winchester. To see so many people participating in the 10k, as well as supporting the fete, is immensely gratifying. My heartfelt thanks go to the school association, our partners and sponsors, and to our amazing pupils and their families for establishing the event firmly on the calendar. I’ve no doubt that it will continue to grow and thrive in the years ahead.”

Nicola Webster, chair of the Compton School Association, added: “The success of the event relies on contributions from all corners of the community and I’m enormously grateful to everyone who supported us to make it such a success.

"The Compton 10k makes a considerable financial contribution to the school, which enables the association to provide pupils with new technology, new sports equipment and upgrades to the school site that make such a difference to their experience. We’re looking forward to announcing details of next year’s events soon.”

Headline sponsor for the event was Charters. Many other local businesses lent their support, including Rathbones, Veolia and Sam Gavins Photography.

The 2025 Compton 10k and Community Fete are expected to take place on Sunday, May 18 2025.
