A HAMPSHIRE couple have praised expert vets at a Winchester surgery for saving the life of their treasured pet.

Sara-Louise Hulme and Simon Coward, from Hamble, feared the worst when Oscar, their beloved 14-year-old labrador retriever, became critically ill with pneumonia and septic shock.

He was an emergency admission at Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists on Poles Lane, Otterbourne, where he needed to be resuscitated before spending eight days in intensive care.

Sara-Louise said Oscar has now recovered well and the couple were full of gratitude to the hospital’s expert team for the lifesaving treatment.

She said: “We really can’t praise Anderson Moores enough. Without a shadow of doubt, Oscar would have died without the treatment he received.

“I am a consultant in paediatric intensive care medicine and found so much of what Oscar experienced and the guarded, but hopeful, conversations about recovery eerily familiar.

“The Anderson Moores team were so good at balancing my need for all the details as a doctor and my husband Simon wanting to be able to visit him every day.

“I was so glad we were allowed to visit as it made all the difference to us and it did seem to cheer Oscar up.

Apparently Oscar is going from strength to strength every day. His walks are slower and shorter than they were but he still enjoys every minute of them.

Anderson Moores internal medicine residents Fang Yu Foo and Victoria Neale led Oscar’s care, handling his recovery and organising his rehabilitation.

Fang explained: “Oscar was a challenging case to manage initially, because he arrived in such a critical state.

“Once he was stabilised, Oscar was transferred to our intensive care unit for 24-hour care and observation.

“After three days of hospitalisation, Oscar’s demeanour gradually improved and he no longer required his oxygen supplementation.”

Oscar’s improvement gave Fang and Vicky the chance to tackle some of his other problems.

Anderson Moores offers expert care in anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dentistry, diagnostic imaging, feline hyperthyroid clinic, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery.
