In his thank you speech, Mr Chambers praised the more than 1,000 volunteers from across Winchester and the Meon Valley willing to “give up their time and their energy to go out knocking on doors to make Winchester and our country a better place to live.”
Mr Chambers said he was “humbled and honoured” to have received more votes than any other new MP in the country.
He continued: “We believe that Winchester can be a place where everyone can get the physical and mental health care they deserve and that no one should be languishing in a hospital bed for want of a social care package.
“We believe that this country can be a place where an honest day’s work pays a living wage and that no one that has a full-time job should be relying on food banks to feed their families, where no child goes to school hungry.

“We can be a country that takes the threat of climate change seriously and we will take meaningful action to protect our environment and our precious chalk streams.
“This is the fight that I’m going to take to Parliament every day for every one of you.”
Mr Chambers also paid tribute to his predecessors, Jackie Porter and Paula Ferguson who had previously fought to win the seat for the Liberal Democrats during the past three general elections.
