A WINCHESTER-based running club has celebrated its 10th birthday.

Worthy Runners cracked open the prosecco at a barbecue at the Bell Inn in St Cross to celebrate a decade of haring around the countryside.

As one of the smaller clubs in the Winchester area, the Worthy Runners foster a community feeling, often going on coffee runs and pub visits.

Earlier in June they took over Winchester parkrun where 18 of our members volunteered in different roles in their trademark green t-shirts. It was a great success and they now plan on doing this annually.

The Worthy Runners run on Monday evenings at 6.30pm from Eversley Park in Kings Worthy and at 9.30am on Thursday mornings from various locations around Winchester.

Runs last about an hour and vary according to the ability of those present.

The group describe themselves as "a friendly, relaxed and social running club", and everybody is welcome.

On the second Thursday of every month, they hold a coffee and cake run where runners meet at a café after the run for refreshments.

In the summer months, they offer trail runs on one Wednesday a month starting from various Winchester pubs and followed by a social drink.

We enter relay teams for the Clarendon Marathon every year and our members regularly participate in many races, of distances from 5k to ultra-marathons, both locally and further afield.

Membership is free. and their current runners are of all ages and abilities. Those interested can visit their website at www.worthyrunners.com for more details, or find them on Instagram or Facebook.

If you are thinking of signing up to a running club and you live in the Winchester area, now would be a good time.
