EXTENSION plans for a Winchester property will be decided this week.

William Brewin's application is to demolish a single storey lean-to and construct a new single storey rear extension at 13 Quarry Road, St Giles Hill.

The scheme includes alterations to windows at first floor level and new Velux type windows.

It will be decided by Winchester City Council's planning committee on Wednesday, July 17.

A total of six objections and five supporting comments have been received.

Chris Prior, of King Alfred Terrace, said: “The property is in a conservation area and the vernacular of the properties within the conservation area should be respected. Any additions or alterations should be in keeping with the general character of the surrounding properties to ensure the community value and aesthetic value is taken into account.”

A comment from the City of Winchester Trust said: “The trust supports this application which we consider to be an impressive and sensitive extension to this house.”

The council's planning officers have recommended the scheme be approved.

The officers' report said: “The design and materials are considered high quality, and the extension will add a modern alteration to an Edwardian dwelling. The proposal has been assessed against potential impacts upon neighbouring amenities of adjacent dwellings (both west and east), and potential impacts upon the Winchester Conservation Area. The application is therefore considered to be acceptable and in accordance with the development plan and material planning matters do not indicate an alternative approach should be taken.”
