THE Bishop of Winchester blessed a bronze shell which marks a significant place on the pilgrim route. 

The Rt Rev Philip Mounstephen was at the Hospital of St Cross on Thursday, July 11. 

The bronze camino shell marks part of the route to Santiago de Compostela - the burial site of the Biblical apostle St James.

As well as the bishop, Brother John Switzer, Rev Dominik Chmielewski - Master of the Hospital of St Cross and Almshouse of Noble Poverty and David Sinclair, member and coordinator of the Confraternity of St James.

The Bishop of Winchester, Rt Rev Philip Mounstephen, said: “The ancient Hospital of St Cross is a place of rest and refuge for pilgrims today, just as it’s been for centuries. It was a joy to bless the bronze shell that marks it as a significant place on the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostella, and to speak of the rest and refreshment any of us can find in God today.”
