I AM absolutely delighted that Richard Murphy has replaced me as a city councillor, and with such a thumping majority.

He is a deeply caring and wonderful person, and will carry on the great work of his late wife, Lynda, in service of the people of Winchester.

Your article (Chronicle, July 11) stated that I had only recently been elected in May. In fact, the people of St Michael voted for me in May 2023. So, although unforeseen circumstances have taken me away from Winchester, I did have the privilege of being part of the Liberal Democrat team for fourteen months, not the two that your article implied.

Although I leave Winchester; the strength of Winchester, its people and public servants, including our new MP, Danny Chambers, will never leave me.

George Prest,
St Cross Road,
Winchester
