A HAMPSHIRE village has hosted a raucous barn dance and hog roast.

A night of festivities and good food at the Meon Hall in Meonstoke raised £2,000 for local family support charity Home-Start Winchester

Special guests included the Mayor and Mayoress of Winchester who arrived in style with event sponsors Bill and Rose Rawles of Bill Rawles Classic Cars, in a pristine 1961 Austin Healey 3000 Mk 1.

The mayor and mayoress, who are great fans of country dancing, joined in the revels, displaying some nifty footwork when they took to the floor, together with more than 100 guests, all of whom were loath to leave the party at the end of the evening.

The Craigievar Ceilidh Band played with gusto and dancers enjoyed old favourites like The Dashing White Sergeant as well as a few more complicated sets, which led to a great deal of hilarity as sometimes partners found themselves on the wrong side of the dance floor.

A hearty hog roast was laid on by Mr Piggies Pork and the charity’s fundraising team prepared salads, and a variety of puddings for dessert.

“We have an amazing Events team,” said trustee Chrissie Barlow, who worked hard to make this evening a success. "It is such a popular night that I think it will be firmly in our calendar of fundraising events every year.

“Home-Start is increasingly reliant on donations from supporters, sponsorship from local businesses and our own fundraising to support our work as we must raise over 90% of our annual income every year,” she said, "which is why we are so grateful to sponsors like Bill Rawles Classic Cars for their unwavering support.”
