A 79-year-old Hampshire man has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and hit-and-run.

Another man in his 70s was taken to hospital with "serious injuries" after he was hit by a car in Denmead, near Portsmouth.

Police were called at 5.51pm on Friday, July 5, to a report of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Hambledon Road.

The pedestrian is in a stable condition.

Officers arrested the pensioner from Waterlooville on suspicion of driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs and causing serious injury by careless driving.

He has been released from custody but remains under investigation while enquiries continue.
