WORK is progressing on a new Winchester city centre surgery.

The new St Clements' Surgery is being built on the former car park on the corner of Friarsgate and Upper Brook Street as a replacement for the practice in Tanner Street.

According to a new newsletter, the construction is on track for a September completion.

The newsletter says: “The main structure of the building has now been completed and the building is nearly watertight.

“With the external brickwork almost complete, you will be able to see the building taking shape. Internal works are now progressing, with the windows currently being installed.

“Over the next 4 to 6 weeks you will likely see more external works taking place. A part of these works will be carried out off-site by an independent contractor and this is to facilitate power to the building.

“Your patience throughout these works is much appreciated”.

As previously reported, Pangbourne Contracting is currently carrying out work to connect the new surgery to the main power grid. Some of the works have been disrupting traffic on Friarsgate, with Simon Turpin, director of The Brooks Shopping Centre, warning that the works will impact tenants there.

The new development will accommodate staff and patients, 15 consulting rooms, three treatment rooms, admin facilities, a larger reception, waiting areas and staff parking.

Meanwhile the current surgery on Tanner Street is being marketed for letting. It is owned by former city councillor Kim Gottlieb.
