The Dean of Winchester says she is “delighted” about the appointment of Mr Lucas, as interim director of music at the cathedral.
It seems rather strange that all the points she makes about Mr Lucas' skills and commitment echo those of Dr Lumsden, whilst conveniently ignoring the fact that the latter had them in abundance.
We sincerely hope that Mr Lucas will be able to resist the treatment that led to yet a third untimely departure of eminent organists, who have promoted Winchester's cathedral's long tradition of choral music to the highest level.
An independent investigation is long overdue. Let's hope and pray that it will reveal the truth of this highly regrettable situation.
