The Watercress Line is all set to mesmerise art and craft lovers this summer, with a series of vibrant art-themed events.

From open-air painting sessions to curated gallery exhibits, the heritage railway will transform into a hub of creative activity.

On July 20 and 21, the railway will play host to local artists who will be working 'en plein air' at all four stations.

The event will also include returning art societies and, for the first time, the Winchester Art Club.

These artists will capture picturesque scenes along the line, giving visitors the unique opportunity to watch them create on the historic railway.

In additon to that, the Goods Shed at Alresford Station will house The Guild of Railway Artists Exhibition on the same dates.

Visitors can expect to see incredible railway-themed artworks, many of which will be up for purchase.

Also making its debut this summer at the Watercress Line is the Makers’ Market.

Taking place at the Alresford Station forecourt on July 20 and August 17, the market will have more than 20 stalls showcasing high-quality, handmade, products.

One of the key attractions of the summer programme is the partnership with Hampshire Open Studios.

From August 17 to 26, 16 artists, part of a newly formed collective, will display and sell their work in a gallery-style event at the Goods Shed at Alresford Station.

Rebecca Dalley, CEO of The Watercress Line, shared her excitement for the forthcoming events.

Ms Dalley said: "We're delighted to host this brilliant programme of arts-related events at the railway over the summer.

"There truly is something for everyone who enjoys arts and crafts.

"Why not make more of a day of it and take a delightful train ride on our heritage steam trains, or simply stop off for coffee and cake at our West Country Buffet."
